In response to Khalil Gibran, "On Freedom"

A well written and constructed response to a portion of a poem written by Khalil Gibran, "On Freedom". A brother took the liberty upon himself to respond so eloquently and allowed us to share. --------------------------------------------------------- But even within these moments that you perceive as torment, we find the freedom in our struggle. For we are not bound by the shallow misery of this world, nor have our hearts rusted in the waves of life...  In the grief of my nights I find a voice of shimmering hope within my heart, one that speaks to a tune unbeknownst to man but sung amongst the angels. A praise so simple in its structure but so magnanimous in its deliverance..  A praise that yields success even if it be a mustard seed buried in a boulder..  What if for me and the few that worship at the gate of mercy by the fire of her majestic rays at the early hour of her rise and in the glory of her descent..  What if we hold on...

Have Faith!

“Have faith”, you hear it all the time. To the point where the phrase in itself begins to lose value. Someone died? “Have faith” Lost a job? “Have faith” Having relationship issues? “Have faith” Having faith is important. But when you only hear this phrase, how much can it really help you? I’m going to try and briefly elaborate on this using some narrations from Ahlul Bayt(as) and verses from the Holy Quran. First let’s break it down. What does it mean to have faith? According to the good’ol dictionary, faith is defined as “ Complete trust or confidence in someone or something ”. For example, when you pick up an apple and drop it, you have faith in Newton’s law of gravity that this object will drop – and so it does. Your lack of doubt in the apple dropping to the ground is next to nil, you are confident in this cause and effect because you understand the concept of gravity. Therefore, your understanding results in your confidence in ‘gravity’ that it will result in ...

With hardship comes ease. (Quran - 94 verse 5)

How many a time, do you wander through life finding yourself in some type of situation, wondering and asking yourself, "how/when will this ever get better?" You know, it's very common when going through some type of hardship or calamity in life such as a death, a marriage break-up, loss in finances and the likes, to begin questioning one’s faith - "Where is the help?", "But I pray, fast and do good, what is happening to me??". But think about it this way: Imagine one wanted to become a pilot, their whole lives dream is to fly commercial airplanes all around the world, visiting beautiful countries and experiencing what others could only dream of. Now, imagine an airline saw this individual and said to them; " Hey, we understand you have no experience or academic qualification, but because you have a nice heart, we want you to take charge of our  747-400 ! " Almost sounds like a dream right? It is, until the airplane come...

Ask yourself sincerely...

A brief reflection on our relationship with God Are we taking advantage of the mercy of Allah? Life is all about reflection and being true to yourself.  I have had one of those moments in which, I truly had to ask myself sincerely. Now, I give the question to you: Are we taking advantage of the mercy of Allah? Are we taking advantage of the fact that we know, if we commit sin, Allah will not punish us right away but rather give us time to repent and reform? We are more likely to wake up for work, after 1 hour sleep, than we are to wake up for fajr after 8 hours Is it because we fear that our boss will sack us or yell at us? And we know that Allah will just wait... He will forgive, don't worry? Think about it, We fear people and their direct reaction as oppose to Allah and His mercy. Yet we know His punishment is worse than anything you can imagine In the quran Allah says: Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 25:   But on that da...
